What names to British mums and dads rate as awesome? Compared to previous years, which have seen Oliver and Amelia trump the lot, there has been a juggle in rankings of Britain’s top baby names. According to the latest results from Babycentre.co.uk Muhammed comes out top for boys and Sophia for girls. Check out this year’s top ten:
The polls, formulated by 56,157 BabyCentre.co.uk members who gave birth in 2014, suggest a surge in Arabic names for both boys and girls in Britain – Nur and Maryam have jumped spots on the girls’ list and Omar, Ali, and Ibrahim are popular boy names. There’s also been a 70s revival with Emma, Sarah and Maria up on the lists. Angela, Joanne, Claire and Karen have also all increased in popularity. Teddy, Kian and Jonathan are the highest new entries on the boys’ list and John has also made it onto the top 100.
And if you’re looking for something a little less ordinary, for girls; Wren, London, Phoenix, Logan, Indigo and Genisis are great choices and for boys; Prince, King, Junior, Hendrix, Braxton.
