Dettol donate a baby blanket campaign, which rolled out last year, is still accepting donations! The campaign aims to promote the dangers of bacteria on blankets (especially in winter – cold & flu season) and highlight the shortage of baby blankets available to infants born to disadvantaged families.
Laboratory tests commissioned by Dettol – on washed blankets donated by volunteer mums – show that baby ‘blankies’ carry a variety of bacteria even after a 40°C wash. In fact, a third of the washed blankets harboured coliforms – a group of bacteria linked to faeces. Good to know, right?
The campaign has been accepting baby blankets via Freepost and once collected, the blankets are washed with Dettol Anti-bacterial Laundry Cleanser to eradicate the nasties, before being sent off to families in need. Another FYI: every minute of every day, approximately 50 babies are born into poverty and will experience conditions lacking basic essentials including hygienically clean blankets.
For every blanket collected, £1 will be donated to Sparks (the children’s medical research charity) to help to improve children’s health in the UK.
It’s a great initiative and costs you nothing! If you’d like to send along a blanket or two, the Freepost address (no stamp required) is:
