Summer – even the British one – is no picnic when you’re heavily preggers. Pregnancy already raises your body temp – so it’s especially important to keep hydrated during the hot weather. Check out this watermelon snack hack – quick, easy-peasy, and super-refreshing.
If you’re finding it tough to down the recommended-for-health plain ol’ water, these fruity pink ‘ice-cubes’ may be just the thing to perk up your h20. Plus, watermelon is a bonafide superfruit for mums-to-be, easing heartburn and swelling, preventing third-trimester muscle cramping, and keeping morning sickness and dehydration at bay due to its fruit sugars and high water content. It’s also packed with vitamin goodness: A, C and B6, as well as potassium and magnesium – which aid healthy foetal development.
- 1/2 seedless watermelon
- Still water, sparkling water or coconut water
Cut the watermelon into bite-sized cubes.
Tip: Freeze leftover bits (not the skin, though!) for smoothies.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper, arrange the watermelon cubes alongside each other (but not touching).
Pop into the freezer for a few hours or overnight.
Next, peel off the paper and store frozen melon cubes in a freezer bag until you’re feeling thirsty! Then; fill a glass with the ice cubes and pour over your choice of beverage.
